Paris frequently tops lists for most visited city in the world, and this is for very good reason. With its vibrant blend of history, architecture, culture, dining and shopping, it’s clear to see why the City of Light is the destination of choice for millions of travellers every year.

For those looking to experience everything this European gem has to offer, here’s your definitive guide to visiting Paris in style.

Arriving in Paris

The Paris vicinity is served by several airports that cater to private jet charter arrivals. However, Le Bourget Airport (LBG) is the most popular choice, situated just seven kilometres northeast of the city centre.

Alternatively, Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is the city’s principal international airport, and also caters to private jet charter arrivals and departures.

Where to stay

Paris is comprised of 20 arrondissements (municipal districts), and each offers its own character. For those looking for luxury and convenience during their trip, we recommend the 1st, 8th and 16th arrondissements as the basis for your stay.

  • 1st arrondissement: This area features some of Paris’ most iconic and luxurious hotels, including the Ritz Paris and the Mandarin Oriental. It is also home to the iconic Louvre Museum and the Place Vendôme.
  • 8th arrondissement: For those who want to shop till they drop, the 8th arrondissement is the obvious choice. The Champs-Élysées and Avenue Montaigne make this district a haven for high-end shopping and fine dining. It also houses the Four Seasons Hotel George V and Hôtel Plaza Athénée.
  • 16th arrondissement: A quieter location than the 1st and 8th, the 16th arrondissement is known for its upscale residential vibe and offers a more refined Parisian experience. The Shangri-La Hotel, located in a former palace, provides breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower.

Sites to visit

No visit to Paris is complete without exploring its iconic landmarks and cultural gems – sometimes the beaten track is as such for a reason!

  • Eiffel Tower: Avoid the crowds and queues by booking a private tour so you can enjoy exclusive access to one of the world’s most famous landmarks. Sip on a glass of champagne 300m above the ground whilst taking in outstanding views of the city.
  • Louvre Museum: Arrange a private tour guide to navigate the vast collection and gain insight into its most famous works, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.
  • Palace of Versailles: Just outside Paris, this opulent palace offers private tours that allow you to explore the grandeur of Louis XIV’s residence at your own pace. It also offers specialised tours of areas unavailable to the general public that can be taken out of regular opening hours, for a truly exclusive experience.

Shopping destinations

Paris is synonymous with luxury shopping, and it’s easy to see why. The city is home to some of the world’s most exclusive and iconic shopping districts.

  • Avenue Montaigne: This prestigious avenue in the 8th arrondissement is lined with flagship stores of haute couture brands like Chanel, Dior, and Louis Vuitton.
  • Rue Saint-Honoré: This chic street features high-end boutiques, including Hermès, Balenciaga, and Colette. It’s a fantastic location for sipping on a cocktail and people-watching.
  • Le Bon Marché: Located in the 7th arrondissement, Le Bon Marché is Paris’ oldest department store. It offers an exquisite selection of fashion and beauty, as well as La Grande Épicerie, its gourmet food hall.

Dining

As well as being the capital of France, Paris is also a food capital of the world, boasting numerous Michelin-starred restaurants. Le Meurice in the 1st arrondissement offers a tempting blend of traditional and contemporary French cuisine in a palatial setting. Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée in the 8th arrondissement is renowned for its innovative approach to haute cuisine, focusing on exceptional ingredients. Epicure holds three Michelin stars and is nothing short of a gastronomic institution, and is particularly lovely in the summer when you can dine in an idyllic garden setting.
